ISSUE Five:
OUR YOUTH AND SENIOR CITIZENS
The Issue
Once a treasured part of our society, our youth
and senior citizens have been terribly overlooked in recent years.
From the lure of juvenile crime, to violence, to lack of adequate
support systems, our youth have been under siege with negative influences.
Our senior citizens have been the forgotten part of our society.
For many they have become the one's with the problems instead of the
one's with the answers.
My Stance
These two groups are the jewels of our
society. One jewel full of promise and the other full of
wisdom. We need to support our future and nurture our past as much
as we build our present.
The Future
- Fully mobilize our youth commission,
complete with support from law enforcement and area governments
- Involve law enforcement in every community
sponsored youth event
- Expansion of existing community-wide youth
programs
- Increased utilization of recreational parks
as a hub for positive youth activity
- Involve the school district in an expanded
youth development role
- Fully support the construction of our new
senior center
- Expand access to and the quality of senior
housing in our community
- Continue to implement programs that
emphasize comfort, safety and convenience for all of our seniors
- Expand access to and the quality of senior
housing in our community
- Fully support our youth and senior advocates
with access to the community decision making process at all levels
- Mesh our quality of life programs with our
youth and seniors programs as much as possible giving them alternatives
to everyday activities
- TREAT ALL YOUTH AND SENIORS WITH THE DIGNITY
AND RESPECT THEY DESERVE
