INGLEWOOD,
CA – JULY 8, 2005 -- Inglewood Councilman,
Curren D. Price, Jr., is helping to bridge
the computer technology gap in Inglewood by
providing a free seminar on computer technology
covering a myriad of topics. The seminar,
which will be held as part of Price’s Town Hall
meeting, will provide a hands-on opportunity for
residents to understand and utilize computer
technology. The seminar will be held
Saturday, July 16, 2005 from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00
p.m. at the Manchester I-COPPS Center
located at 2901 W. Manchester Blvd.
Councilman Price initiated this effort because he
has a burden for both seniors and youth who are
intimated by or don’t have regular access to
computers. Price notes, “I find that many
people, particularly our seniors, are intimidated
by computers, some even say they’re too old to
try. That’s just not true. They are
viable contributors to our community and I am
committed to adding modern technology to their
skills.” “As for our youth”, Price
continues, “Some are learning in school, others
are not. Even some young people are
intimidated. This is unacceptable. Our
young and our seniors, and everyone in the middle,
will learn together. They will not only learn
about the Internet and basic computer skills, but
they will learn how new technology can assist in
keeping them healthy and safe.”
A number of leading companies in the areas of
present and developing technology will be on-hand
to instruct and assist participants. Among
the companies participating in the seminar are
Airwires Communications Group, Computer Works of
California, 4SL Technologies, African Male
American Achievers Network, Southern California
Edison, and The Gas Company. Topics that
will be covered during the seminar include:
Inglewood Online, a review of Inglewood’s
Website, including departments and services;
Utilities and Technology, description of
technology as it relates to providing better
utility service to residents; Netiquette and
Computer Sense, overview of proper Internet
Etiquette including basic surfer techniques; and
Don’t Be Afraid of Your Computer, helpful
maintenance tips to keep your computer running
smoothly.
Computer work stations will be available so that
participants may practice and ask questions of the
experts that will be on hand. Refreshments
will be provided.
The entire community is invited and encouraged to
participate in this very important seminar.
